My goal this year was to surpass my 2010 Texas Worlds results and I got off to a great start during early qualifying and my MTX5 was really easy to drive (You can check out my setting on this site to see what an unusual setting for this track). After 5 rounds of qualifying, I was in 11th place and looked to go into the semis, but round 6 was the rocket round and I was on pace to make the semis but just could not finish, so I ended up just missing the semis qualifying 19th into the finals. In the 1/4 finals, I held pace as one of the front runners but did not know my position too clearly and after the race I realized when chasing hard for the final bump up space, I was actually chasing the 4th place car.. I wanted to bump up so badly that I drove very hard and aggressive and made a mistake with less than 2 minutes left and caused my car to break. It was unfortunate but that’s racing. I ended up 33rd, which was better than 2010 but far below my own expectations and goals. I want to … [Read more...] about 2012 Nitro Sedan Worlds – Bangkok, Thailand

2012 KM CUP – Bangkok, Thailand
It was either between flying to Vegas for the IIC indoor carpet race or flying to Thailand for the KM Nitro Sedan World Cup and we decided on going to Thailand to prepare for the Worlds. Many top drivers were at the KM cup so the competition was very tough also because there were so many local drivers who know that track very well. The first few days of practice were tough, could not find the right setting and simply not competitive. After switching to “Double Compound” front tires and using tire additives, my lap time immediately dropped and I was in the game. I qualified 8th into the A Main and in the final due to own mistake, DNF but finished 8th overall. I thought it was a good practice warm up for the Worlds and this track is very difficult to find the right setting because conditions changes so quickly. But we think we know what to do for the Worlds so let’s hope for the best. … [Read more...] about 2012 KM CUP – Bangkok, Thailand
2012 CHINA NATIONALS – Beijing, China
This was my first China Nationals, I have always wanted to win a National title in China but it always would conflict with my school schedule and held in far away regions of the county. This year, the Nationals were held in Beijing and although I had to miss couple days of school, I wanted to make the event. Overall, the entry was not large as the overall nitro scene in China has slowed down this year. However, the top nitro drivers in China were all present. I TQ’d and won both the 1/10 Sedan and 1/8 GP On-Road title this year and instead of trophies, the Chinese Sports Federation gave me 2 gold medals and certificate. I was told these were the same medals given to China’s Olympic athletes when they competed in the National games. Pretty cool! TQ in both 1:10 and 1:8 Nitro On-road Fastest lap time all week Winner of both 1:10 and 1:8 Class China’s youngest National Champion at age 14 JJ Wang double at Chinese Nationals The Chinese On-Road Nationals were … [Read more...] about 2012 CHINA NATIONALS – Beijing, China
IFMAR EP WORLDS – HOLLAND
The EP Worlds for me was a tough one, with only 2 sets of fresh tires for qualifying, it was all about strategy. I chose to use my 2 fresh sets for the first two qualifying rounds and my first round went quite well placing me in the top 30 after round 1. However, the second round I made a mistake with a minute left which saw my overall ranking drop way down. The rest was history as I was not able to find a way to set fast times on used tires. However, I was happy for my team and Hara for doing so well, and glad I was able to help the team test things in the last 2 rounds of my qualifying. I had a lot of fun and it was good to see all my electric racing friends worldwide. … [Read more...] about IFMAR EP WORLDS – HOLLAND

Super Grand Prix One F1 RC league finale
The Super Grand Prix One (SGP1) F1 RC league concluded its first inaugural season in China with great success. Over the course of 6 months with 6 rounds of intense racing, the final round saw 3 drivers with the mathematical probability to take the grand championship title. At the end, JJ Wang of Team HPI-A was crowned the Grand Champion with AI Luo of Team RW Lotus coming in second, and Dom Xu of Team JW-FGX finishing the season in third. SGP1 will be hosting Japan’s F1RCGP teams next month in Shanghai to kick off SGP1 season two, which will see all teams powered by Dualsky as the league’s main sponsor. AI Luo who won the first 3 rounds going into the deciding final round was 12 points behind JJ Wang who won round 4&5. JJ needed to finish top 6 in the A-Main to secure the championship. Dom Xu of JW-FGX’s only outside chance for the title was to win round 6 with AI and JJ not scoring any points at all. All 3 drivers qualified into the A-Main with TQ JJ being the only driver … [Read more...] about Super Grand Prix One F1 RC league finale
RCI hosts successful Horizon Hobby China Cup
On May 1st, a public holiday in China, RCI hosted the first ever Horizon Hobby Cup with the offroad event attracting an encouraging 55 entries to the impressive indoor facility situated in the Shanghai suburbs. Also housing an asphalt track which is set to host a round of the upcoming Asian Touring Series, the venue was the perfect stage for Horizon Hobby China to interact with racers in a sport that is still very much in the early stages of development in this potentially huge market. While Losi and TLR are renowned for their racing heritage in the rest of the world, in China they are still relatively unknown and this is why in October Horizon Hobby China was formed. In that short time the new Chinese division is already helping to bring new participants into the sport thanks to its schools program. Working together with government schools to encourage r/c racing as an interactive activity this is already showing great signs of success as highlighted by the 29 students, two of … [Read more...] about RCI hosts successful Horizon Hobby China Cup
